Frequently Asked Questions about our 2025 Training-Image

What do you mean by “strengthening democracy”?

Unlike our 2024 session, which was regionally focused on Northwestern Wisconsin, this session has a theme: strengthening democracy. We’re looking for participants from all corners of the state who would like to strengthen democracy in their communities by building more and stronger connections among residents. America has seen a decline in social connections to our neighbors, which has led to a decrease in civic participation and an increase in hate and distrust. At Wisconsin Humanities, we believe that community connections help combat isolation and build bridges across differences that can help our democracy grow stronger. We’re looking for Fellows who want to work with their fellow community members to find shared values and visions for the future and to enact projects that bring people together around those values and visions, thus making their communities more resilient.

You don’t have to have a project in mind when applying to this program (in fact, we discourage pre-planned project ideas), but if your goals align with this theme and you’re thinking about how the strengths of your community can be leveraged to support stronger community ties and civic life,  this program might be for you.

Is this program remote?

All of our training sessions for this session will take place on Zoom. Scheduling for Zoom workshops will be decided as a group once we’ve selected the final participants. We will meet for at least 6 hours a month for the first six months.

You are offering an info session on October 29th. I can’t attend. Will the info session be recorded?

Yes, the info session will be recorded and a link to the recording will be sent out to all registered participants the day after the session. Please register for the meeting to receive the link to the video. You can register here: https://wisconsin-edu.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJwocumvqjstH9dr36TvqNSqLu6cExOTJ43H.

This list will be updated with more questions as they arise! If you have a question, please email Chrissy at chrissy.widmayer@wisconsinhumanities.org.
